Via Andy at StockPhoto Talk, Magnum is now blogging. Magnum holds an amazing spot in my heart and mind. I remember always wanting Magnum photo books when I was a kid and never having enough of them – they were expensive. I remember wanting to see the world through the eyes of their photographers because they traveled so far away to capture incredible events, people and places. I never understood how they could simply land somewhere that is so different from their homeland and culture and yet come away with an incredible array of images that truly capture the essence of a country or people. It was a mystery to me. It still is today.

I am hoping that the Magnum blog will over time give us all a glimpse as to all the work going on behind the Magnum photographers’ lenses. It seems that some great things are happening over at Magnum including Mark Lubell Magnum Photos new New York Bureau Chief being named Innovator of the Year by American Photo. Here is a backstage look at Magnum NY (this is old but stil fun to watch). Martin Fuchs was responsible for the Magnum blog design but there are over ten authors including Stephen Bulger from Toronto.

"Magnum is a community of thought, a shared human quality, a
curiosity about what is going on in the world, a respect for what is
going on and a desire to transcribe it visually."
